Inaugural Annual Conference 2008

The inaugural Annual Conference and AGM of the NZIIP was held on 6 August 2008 at Te Papa Museum in Wellington. Nearly 150 intelligence professionals from government, commerce and academia gathered for a full day of presentations and networking opportunities.

The NZIIP and the inaugural conference were launched with an opening address by the Prime Minister, Hon. Helen Clark and followed with presentations by:

Mr Patrick Walsh

WalshSenior Vice President of the Australian Institute of Intelligence Professionals (AIPIO) (www.aipio.asn.au) and Senior Lecturer in Criminal Intelligence at Charles Sturt University. Patrick brought to us insights from the wisdom gained by AIPIO during its journey (from foundation in 1991 to the present day) as a sister organisation focussed on developing intelligence practice in Australia.

Dr Warren Tucker

TuckerDirector of the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service. The NZSIS speaker provided insight into the role and purpose of intelligence in a National Security context.

Colonel Kevin Arlidge

Arlidge Intelligence Director, NZ Defence Force. Kevin offered his views on the part that intelligence plays within a defence and military context given the various roles that our defence forces are called on to perform in current times.

Mr Mark Evans, OBE

EvansNational Intelligence Manager, NZ Police. Mark brought us the benefit of his experiences on the role, purpose and structures for intelligence practice in a law enforcement environment, drawing from his time in United Kingdom and in his more recent role with NZ Police, establishing a national intelligence model for policing in New Zealand.

Mr Renny Vandervelde

VanderveldeGeneral Manager Maritime Security, Maritime NZ. Renny shared his insights on the role intelligence plays within a regulatory and compliance environment, drawing on his experience in the intelligence and security function within Maritime NZ.
