Join our Financial Crime Unit intelligence team, focused on large-scale cross-border financial crime.

The Customs Financial Crime Unit (FCU) is focused on preventing the movement of illicit funds from organised crime crossing our border and funding further crime.  We’re looking for an entry level intelligence analyst to join our Auckland team, to collect and analyse data to look for potential trade-based money laundering and cash smuggling.

You will have experience working with mass data sets.  Ideally, you will have experience as an intelligence analyst or in a financial data analyst role. You will need knowledge of relevant legislation and an understanding of the trade environment, both nationally and internationally. You will enjoy building positive working relationships, as you will be working collaboratively with our partner agencies both in NZ and overseas.

About you:

• You understand the Intelligence Cycle
• You are experienced with data manipulation and analysis
• You have advanced Excel skills, and ideally experience using SPSS Modeller, Tableau or similar
• You’re an experienced report writer, and comfortable giving briefings at all levels
• You understand information security principles (caveats)
• You are up to date with current affairs, able to pick up on financial trends and risks

This is an entry level intelligence analyst role, at the rank of Senior Customs Officer (Grade 1), and we’re looking for people who care about their team – you’re approachable, supportive and willing to help.  You’ll report to the Supervising Customs Officer of the Financial Crime Unit.

The salary range for this role is approximately $57,000 – $72,000.

Security Requirements

You will need to obtain Secret level national security clearance. To achieve Secret clearance, you must have resided in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom or the United States continuously for the last 10 years. Already having Secret clearance is a benefit, but not a requirement. We’ll guide you through the process.
