 Kōrero mō te tūranga -About the role

In this role you will join MFAT’s Industry and Innovation Team which is responsible for initiating, and delivering a portfolio of largely Pacific development projects and providing advice on projects across the agriculture, tourism, digital and the private sectors.

Access to affordable telecommunications and digital services is a key enabler for both social and economic development. Being able to transact effectively online is critical in today’s modern society and digital services have the ability to bring key services within reach of remote communities for the first time.

Our focus in the Pacific is to work with partners across the region to develop modern digital services and telecommunications infrastructure to deliver real benefit to Pacific populations. We also focus on cybersecurity capacity-building in the Pacific region.

As the Lead Adviser, Digital you will lead the Pacific digital development programme for the Ministry. This will include:

•leading complex digital and ICT initiatives in the Pacific

•providing technical and policy advice

•influencing the Ministry’s strategy and programming through ICT sector insights.

he appointment range for this role is $135,000 to $180,000 per annum.  The midpoint for this role is $157,000 – and we would aim to appoint around that however can be negotiable depending on experience.

We would like to hear from you if you are a strategic thinker with the ability to understand the key challenges and opportunities for Pacific countries and how improvement in digital platforms can help partners to address these big picture issues.

In particularly we would like to see you demonstrate the following on your application:

•A strong delivery practitioner with the ability to help develop and deliver the programme, able to connect strategic goals with delivering real outcomes on the ground within partner countries.

•Experience working within the complexities of governments across the Pacific, NGOs, community-based organisations and the private sector.

•Experience developing compelling business cases and deliver presentations to external groups, internal governance panels and to represent New Zealand offshore if required.

•Ideally, you will have experience in telecommunications or ICT within a public sector context, and experience of aid and development would be desirable.
