- Alongside business owners, leading the initiatives that will change how we deliver the services that comprise our operation
- Working with front line delivery to ensure we are designing services that continually smooth the experience for customers while simultaneously ensuring that we are detecting and deterring risk to our borders.

The Senior Advisor is a key contributor to the development, design and delivery of the Business Improvement and Innovation work programme. The Senior Advisor works collaboratively within the BI&I team and across Customs to identify areas for improvement and use their knowledge of business improvement methodologies and project management to lead or support projects and initiatives through to completion and review.
The Senior Advisor uses a variety of tools and techniques to engage with operational teams, senior stakeholders and customers. The role involves understanding and documenting customer journeys, business processes, and future state requirements; interpreting data; and thinking of innovative solutions driven by excellent customer experience and tangible business benefits. The Senior Advisor will plan and manage the delivery of projects, including resourcing, reporting, and managing risks and dependencies.

To be successful in this role you will need to evidence strategic thinking and business acumen that enables you to identify opportunities for efficiency, effectiveness or improved customer service.
You will have experience successfully delivering business improvement or innovative solutions within a service delivery organisation, ideally within the public sector. You will understand the principles of project management and be able to plan and communicate the resourcing and timing of streams of work, effectively managing risks and dependencies.
You will be an excellent communicator and able to present ideas and data effectively to a wide range of people, and be able to build relationships at all levels of the organisation. You will be able to work collaboratively and adaptably within the team, taking on a variety of tasks and working independently or taking a leadership role as required. The team is based in Wellington but you will be required to travel to other parts of the country.
Ideally you will bring a wide range of skills and experience and will demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development. Specific skills and knowledge that would be desirable for this position include Project Management, Business Analysis, Customer-centric design methodologies, Agile, Process Improvement, Change Management, and use of Continuous Improvement tools.
