  • As the successful applicant you’ll be able to plan, lead and deliver intelligence products to target risk or develop insights into risks and opportunities for primary industries.
  • The immediate focus of this role will be to  track and assess issues within international fisheries and oceans that could impact New Zealand’s interests   As part of the Primary Industries Intelligence team you will also turn your attention toward the areas of Trade and Food Safety as required and be involved in major Responses.
  • The role is a strategic intelligence role so an ability to look at complex problems from a broad perspective is essential.
  • You’ll have the ability to establish relationship networks across MPI, wider government and industry.
  • As an Intelligence Analyst, you will be able to:
    • Plan, lead and deliver intelligence products with a strong intelligence methodology
    • Think outside the box to target risk or develop insights into risks and opportunities for our Primary Industries.
    • Negotiate with stakeholders both internally and external across industry, including decision makers, to determine requirements and priorities for intelligence products.
    • Maintain appropriate standards and professionalism including seeking feedback from customers around the quality and timeliness of intelligence.
    • Proactively establish and maintain productive relationships with SANDA and clients.
    • Have an NDIA or equivalent experience in intelligence
    • Background or experience in Pacific geopolitics, International fisheries, law, or trade would be advantageous
    • Be prepared to be involved in Responses including All of Government Responses.
  • In addition to the duties of an Intelligence Analyst a Senior Analyst will:
    • Provide coaching, mentoring and advice to Analysts within the team to ensure their success and keep the team informed of changes.
    • Carry out complex tasks that may require more in-depth analysis and may have a wider span of control and/or work across multiple teams
    • Ongoing quality assurance and peer reviews to support performance and delivery of work
    • Develop training and instructions
    • Have the ability to establish networks across MPI, wider government and industry.
  • The successful Senior applicant will be based in Wellington City however we are open to applications nationally as the analyst position can also be based in Auckland. Be part of a team of 15 intelligence professionals working in close proximity to key partner agencies.
  • The successful applicant must be able to obtain a higher level security clearance.
    • Most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for at least the last ten (10) years, OR
    • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last ten (10) years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
