Date and Time: Monday 10th November, 2pm
Location: Ministry of Transport, 3 Queens Wharf, Wellington
You may have heard of the Enigma Machine, but this is a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with the real thing. Mike Pritchard from the Australian Spy Museum will be presenting an insightful 45-minute session on this historic piece of WWII technology, followed by Q&A time and a chance to experience these enigmatic marvels up close.
This marvel of the 20th century remains a historic part of both aviation and maritime security, and the codebreaking efforts during WWII led to the birth of modern computing. The Enigma stands as one of the iconic examples of cryptography, with its principles remaining important even in today’s cybersecurity landscape. The demonstration will include a 1935 pattern Enigma M1, two Swiss Enigmas and an East German numbers station appliance, with this last one bridging WWII into the ‘modern age’.
Numbers for this event will be capped, so please confirm if you are attending in person or joining online. For those attending in person, please allow sufficient time for signing in from 1.30pm, so that you are seated in time for the 2pm presentation.
