Leadership for the Intelligence Profession

The New Zealand Institute of Intelligence Professionals has commissioned Blackthorn to run a one-day professional development course designed specifically for intelligence professionals who are new to management or leadership roles, and who are looking to strengthen their capabilities in guiding teams and navigating interpersonal dynamics in intelligence environments.

The course covers:

  • The differences between leadership and management, and how both relate to intelligence teams
  • The role of personal behaviour and the impact on team culture
  • A case study into leadership’s influence on decision-making
  • Strategies for working with or leading dysfunctional teams.

Facilitated by Donna McQuaid, Director of Blackthorn and an NZIIP Board Member, the course is interactive, evidence-informed, and highly relevant to the realities of intelligence work in Aotearoa.

How to Attend

There are 20 places available in total:

  • Ten spots are fully funded by NZIIP and these spots will be allocated via ballot to registered members only. If you are a member and wish to apply, please ensure you are logged into your account and complete the form below, selecting the ‘Apply for Ballot’ option. This will only appear if you are logged in. Ballot applications will close on Monday 21st July, and all applicants will be notified of the outcome no later than Friday 1st August.
  • Ten spots have been heavily subsidised by NZIIP and are available for purchase at $400 +GST on a first come, first served basis. To book your spot on this course, please fill in the form below. Once the ten spots have been sold, a waiting list will be held.

Upon pressing submit, NZIIP will charge $460 ($400 cost +$60GST) to the card that has been provided. Please ensure you have the cardholder's permission before pressing submit.

Terms and Conditions

Booking Policy

Spots for those paying to attend are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the spots are gone, a waiting list will be started. If a spot becomes available, it will be offered to the next person on the waiting list. They will have 5 working days to make payment to accept the spot, otherwise it will be reallocated.

Ballot entries will be accepted until Monday 21st July. All applicants will be informed of the outcome no later than Friday 4th August. NZIIP reserves the right to allocate the available free spots at its sole discretion.​

Booking on behalf

Where you are registering course attendance on behalf of third parties, you confirm that you have obtained the consent of those third parties to these terms and conditions.

Substitute attendees

Should an attendee become unable to attend, they must notify NZIIP immediately so the spot can be reallocated. Attendees are not permitted to nominate their own substitutes.

Cancellation Policy

Refunds will not be given for cancellations unless the spot can be reassigned to a waitlisted participant. Please notify us as at the earliest opportunity to allow sufficient time for this to occur.

Non-attendance

This course has been heavily subsidised by the Institute. Any participant who fails to show up on the day without prior notification shall be banned from future subsidised opportunities. If the individual has their membership funded by an Approved Employer, then the Internal Coordinator for that organisation will be notified.

Compassionate considerations for cancellation or non-attendance (illness, injury, and bereavement) are made at the discretion of the Institute.

Cancellation by Blackthorn

This course is being delivered by Blackthorn Service Limited (trading name Blackthorn). Blackthorn reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a course/workshop at any point prior to its commencement. In all such cases, the Institute shall make full refunds of all fees paid if the participant cannot attend a rescheduled event. In the event of cancellation, you agree that, apart from a full refund of any fees paid, neither Blackthorn nor the Institute is liable to you for any other costs incurred by you in relation to the cancelled course/workshop including travel or accommodation costs.

Photography

Photographs and/or video may be taken during the course for promotional purposes. These images may be used in, but are not limited to, Blackthorn or NZIIP promotional materials, social media and website. If you, or the person you are booking on behalf of, do not grant permission for the release of your image, please notify the course organiser at admin@blackthorn.co.nz.
