Deputy Director Human Intelligence NZDF - Wellington

What you will do

As the Deputy Director Human Intelligence, you will be a senior member of the Intelligence Plans, Policy and Training (PPT) Branch within Defence Intelligence.

You will be responsible for:

  • The oversight of the de-confliction between the Human Intelligence (HUMINT) and Counter Intelligence (CI) functions with NZDF;
  • Engaging with, drafting policy and informing governance processes as well as drafting HUMINT operational directives on behalf of Chief Defence Intelligence for Chief Defence Force;
  • Building, maintaining and sustaining external co-operation and relations between HQ NZDF, DS, other NZ Government agencies and approved military partners with mutual interests.

What we need

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • The knowledge of Human and Counter Intelligence Operations either through operational experience or training;
  • A sound appreciation of security requirements related to Compartmented Intelligence operations;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to draft policy documents effectively and brief senior leadership members with credibility;
  • An understanding of the Capability Management Framework, NZDF Leadership Framework, NZ Intelligence community and NZ international intelligence arrangements;
  • 5 years demonstrable experience in the NZDF Intelligence community.

Who we are

Defence Intelligence (DI) is responsible for the direction and coordination of NZDF’s intelligence activities. Located in Defence House in Wellington, it is an integral component of the wider NZDF Headquarters. DI is provided direction and guidance by the Chief of Defence Force, through the Vice Chief of Defence Force.

Defence 2X (D2X) Function is responsible for drafting NZDF’s HUMINT policy, orders and oversight documentation on behalf of CDI. The D2X function exercises technical control (TECHCON) of and HUMINT as well as de-confliction with Counter Intelligence (CI) activities conducted by the NZDF.
