Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the Role

This is a unique role that will allow you to lead your staff to perform their best in supporting MPI’s operational staff. You’ll also be critical in times of response through providing logistics support while supporting day to day duties.  You’ll be working with highly specialised technical experts in this varied and complex role.  Experience managing remote teams will come in handy, as this role will see you managing facilities and staff in four different locations.  Based in Wellington, you’ll be required to regularly travel to your team’s sites in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch.

As Manager – Biosecurity Support, you’ll be providing a range of support across Biosecurity New Zealand including during responses to biosecurity incursions.  You will direct, plan, and front foot the support of biosecurity. You will be able to build a strong network across the Ministry for Primary Industries and be agile and adaptable.  Your leadership abilities and your ability to see the bigger picture while ensuring resources are deployed efficiently will be highly valued throughout the business.

This role works within a busy environment where no two days are the same!

You will bring your tertiary qualification along with your ability to manage and develop staff, ensure the efficient delivery of resources as and when they’re needed – along with your desire to work in a fast moving environment. You will also be able to have an understanding of:

  • Domestic and international biosecurity issues
  • Logistics expertise
  • Strategic and business planning experience
  • Relationship management skills
  • Financial, administrative, personnel systems knowledge
