Mō te tūnga | About the role

Reporting to the Manager National Intelligence, this position will provide high quality intelligence advice that provides insight and foresight primarily in the areas of violent extremism, transnational organised crime and is responsible for intelligence service delivery to the Prisoners of Extreme Risk Directorate.

The role involves inter-agency liaison, representation and presentation of Corrections Intelligence at internal and external forums and managing the allocation and delivery of intelligence tasks to meet the needs of internal and external clients. The role also supports the Manager National Intelligence and Intelligence Leadership Team to deliver an exemplary intelligence service and the development and continuous improvement of the Department’s intelligence capability.

Specifically, your role will involve:

  • Managing the day to day operations of the national security intelligence function including staff, budgets and relationship management
  • Contributing to Intelligence development and the assessment of strategic issues and risks facing Corrections in order to identify future challenges, gaps in systems, structures, practices and services, and to establish a context for day to day operational activity.
  • Contributing to the strategic leadership of and vision for the future direction of Intelligence

We are looking for a strong leader with experience in motivating and developing specialised staff. You will have a sound knowledge and understanding of intelligence systems and processes. You will also possess:

  • An in-depth understanding of the strategic, operational and tactical employment of intelligence and demonstrated ability to effectively contribute at all levels.
  • Strong knowledge of violent extremism, transnational organised crime and risk assessments
  • Proven ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance from the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service
