Senior Analyst – Counter Intelligence NZ Defence Force (NZDF) - Wellington

  • The Senior Analyst Counter Intelligence provides subject matter expertise to deliver Counter Intelligence (CI) products and services to help identify, assess, and mitigate intelligence or security threats to protect the people, information and assets of NZDF. This could include terrorism, espionage, sabotage, subversion and organised crime (TESSOC).

  • This position’s key responsibilities include:
    • Providing senior subject matter expertise to the development and implementation of CI processes and standards;
    • Supporting well informed decision making by NZDF Leadership;
    • Collaborating with international partners and the wider intelligence community;
    • Deputising for the Team Leader role; and
    • Mentoring and coaching analysts within Defence Counter Intelligence.
  • The Counter Intelligence field is becoming increasingly more dynamic and more complex; we are looking for someone who will be able to utilise their critical thinking to benefit and enhance Counter Intelligence products and processes at a senior level.
  • In order to be successful in this role, you will also have:
    • 5+ years’ experience in delivering assessments and analysis within a government organisation;
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to be able to convey messages clearly and concisely through written and verbal mediums; and
    • Strong planning and organisation skills to ensure effective self-management.
  • This role has a level of ambiguity; you will need to be comfortable working with the unknown and be confident to reassess and realign outcomes in order to meet requirements.
  • Please note: This role will travel both domestically and internationally and requires a full clean drivers’ licence.
  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for.
    • You must have been an NZ Citizen for at least 10 years.  Alternatively, you must hold NZ Permanent Residence or hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for 10 years.
    • You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance.  Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have 15 years of verifiable background history in countries where a meaningful background check can be undertaken and assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service.
