Apply for our 2025 Internship Programme
Are you interested in helping keep New Zealand safe, learning about intelligence work, and improving your analytical and communication skills?
The New Zealand Institute of Intelligence Professionals (NZIIP) is offering internships to selected students throughout the country. Successful applicants will be paired with a mentor throughout their term who will guide them during the internship. Interns will be required to assist with organising events, managing the administrative tasks of the Institute and provide a student viewpoint on Institute activities. This is a great opportunity to connect with practitioners from a variety of agencies in the Intelligence Community, as well as gain valuable experience and understanding of organisational management.
Although mentors will likely be based in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch, we welcome applicants from across Aotearoa.
Reflections from our previous interns
“This internship has deepened my commitment to pursuing a career at the heart of law and national security”
“Having the opportunity to be involved in a community of professionals across a diverse range of intelligence-related roles in both the public and private sectors and build relationships with its members has been a truly unique experience.”
“Engaging with experts from diverse fields has not only broadened my professional network but also deepened my appreciation for interdisciplinary collaboration.”
What You Can Expect
This is an unpaid, part-time opportunity designed to fit around your studies. The time commitment is flexible, but generally consists of two meetings or events a month with a variety of tasks in between. The internship starts in January 2025 and will last for one year. As an intern, you’ll have the chance to:
- Organise and write minutes for NZIIP Board meetings;
- Support NZIIP regional events;
- Work with Board members to support their portfolios;
- Assist in delivering the Institute’s Annual Conference and Annual Awards Night
- Carry out other tasks as agreed to by the interns and the Board.
